In a letter addressing the risks of using surveillance cameras around the homes of parliamentarians, Biometrics and Surveillance Camera Commissioner Fraser Sampson said the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill will abolish the current Surveillance Camera Code of Practice with no plans for its replacement. Sampson said, "There will be no specific legal instrument directly addressing the use of surveillance camera systems, by the police or at all," adding he commissioned a report by outside academics examining risks and potential solutions.
