California recently passed Senate Bill 1001, which bars companies and people from using bots that intentionally mislead those they are talking to into thinking they are human. During a session today at 9 a.m. called, "Branded Chatbots: Privacy, Advertising and Ethical Risks," Hannah Taylor and Daniel Goldberg, both of Frankfurt Kurnit Dlein & Selz; NCC Media CPO and General Counsel Noga Rosenthal; and L'Oreal VP, Legal Services Cassidy Sehgal will discuss how chatbots can improve the customer experience, while also raising some privacy and ethical concerns. If you're looking for a correlating thought piece on chatbots, and what makes a sentient being, check out this new post for Privacy Perspectives from IAPP Research Fellow Nicolas Schmidt. In it, he lays out some of the difficult philosophical questions that will need to be answered as more AI gets embedded into business, law and society.
