Japan’s data protection authority, the Personal Information Protection Commission, released information on enacted amendments to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, which will be enforced two years after its June promulgation. The PIPC outlines enforcement, an increase in statutory penalties, and potential development of related government ordinances, rules and guidelines. “We will continue to consider government ordinances, committee rules, guidelines, (etcetera) for smooth enforcement,” the announcement stated.
