Digital Rights Ireland has launched the country's first "mass action" regarding how the Public Services Card project potentially violated citizens' privacy rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the Irish Examiner reports. Despite an inability to form class-action suits in Ireland, the advocacy group is able to represent individual interests in the public interest under Article 80 of the GDPR. DRI Chairman TJ McIntyre hopes to have more than 1,000 affected citizens join the campaign, while DRI Director Antoin Ó Lachtnain said that even if the DRI's case fails, "that doesn’t mean that other people’s cases are closed."
