The Iowa House passed House File 2506 on a 91-2 vote. The current bill tracks closely with the pending Utah Consumer Privacy Act, including identical data subject rights, coverage thresholds, attorney general enforcement and 30-day right to cure. HF 2506 does not carry provisions for opt-out signals or a private right of action. The effective date for the bill is Jan. 1, 2024. The Iowa legislative session adjourns April 19, but the Senate must report HF 2506 out of a committee by March 18 for further consideration.
