A group of 15 international technology and business trade associations is requesting changes to India’s privacy bill to enhance privacy protections. In a letter to the Joint Parliamentary Committee, the groups said they are concerned some provisions in the Personal Data Protection Bill would “hamper the country’s economic growth” and “in some cases potentially undermine the protection of Indian citizens’ privacy.” Specific concerns include the bill’s data localization requirements, its definition of sensitive personal data, and government access to personal and non-personal data.
