MediaPost reports a class-action lawsuit has been filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California alleging Google violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. The suit stems from complaints regarding faceprints uploaded to Google Photos without user consent or general transparency about the collection of images via facial-recognition technology. According to the filing, Google "scans each and every photo uploaded to the cloud-based Google Photos for faces, [and] extracts geometric data relating to the unique points and contours (i.e., biometric identifiers) of each face."
