FedScoop reports that IT managers are prioritizing the collection and use of "dark" or "grey" data within agencies, but their efforts to do so are being stunted by outdated policy and a lack of proactive leadership. Dark data is unknown and unused data within a system, while grey data is labeled as known and unused. In Splunk's "State of Dark Data Report," a survey of 1,357 IT managers revealed 76% of respondents believe it's important to identify and use dark and grey data. The survey also shows 82% of respondents either don't have faith in artificial intelligence or have limited understanding of automation, while 77% feels a lack of support from company leadership.
