City of Seattle Chief Privacy Officer Ginger Armbruster, CIPP/US, explores the balance between delivering effective and coordinated assistance through the implementation of smart city projects and protecting the privacy of the individuals served, GovTech reports. To ensure privacy concerns remain addressed throughout the city, Armbruster said the office has set up a network of privacy champions in each of Seattle’s 33 city departments. She said, “You have to build the awareness of privacy or it doesn’t make sense,” adding, “We do that by making the need for privacy relevant to individuals, so they are aware of the impact when privacy gets lost.”
