A vote by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission could make it easier for it to regulate companies for privacy violations, The Wall Street Journal reports. In a 3-2 vote, the FTC commissioners approved an adjustment to its approach for prescribing new rules for unfair or deceptive business practices under Section 18 of the FTC Act. “I hope that with these streamlined procedures we can tackle cutting-edge issues, like data abuses, that underpin so many contemporary business models, or unfair and deceptive practices in event ticket sales, among others,” FTC Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter said.
