The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights has launched an investigation into a security incident affecting 700 patients of Cook County Health and Hospitals System, the Chicago Tribune reports. In an October press release, Cook County Health and Hospitals Systems acknowledged the breach, saying it had been notified that Experian Health had accidentally sent information, including names, account numbers, medical record numbers, and birthdates, to other health care facilities during a system update in March. Experian called the breach an “isolated processing error” and took immediate steps to correct the mistake. A spokeswoman for Cook County Health added the hospital is “one of many health care organizations impacted by the Experian breach.”
