- The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention bought location data access on tens of millions of U.S. phones to track compliance with COVID-19 mandates, Vice reports. The CDC paid data broker SafeGraph $420,000 for access that would go toward "potential CDC use cases for data" that included some potential non-COVID-19 tracking purposes.
- The Wall Street Journal reports location data belonging to millions of Grindr dating application users is available for sale on the web. The available data, which dates back to at least 2017, doesn't include personal information but carries points of inference that could lead to the disclosure of home addresses, workplaces and more. Grindr halted location data sharing to advertisers in 2020.
