The Baden-Württemberg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information issued a 1.24 million euro fine against AOK Baden-Württemberg for violations of the EU General Data Protection Regulation. The health insurance company sought to use the data of individuals who had consented to several sweepstakes for advertising purposes. An investigation found AOK did not have the proper measures in place to conduct such activity. The DPA found 500 people had their data processed without their consent.
