According to Saarland's data protection authority, the Independent Data Protection Center Saarland, the Conference of Independent German Federal and State Data Protection Supervisory Authorities decided Microsoft Office 365 does not comply with data protection standards, following a 9-8 vote. The majority of state DPAs took issue with Microsoft's online service terms while also making clear changes are needed to comply with the Court of Justice of the European Union's ruling on cross-border data transfers. German lawyer Nina Diercks dissected the DPAs' decision in a blog post.
