With the new cookie rules now in effect, Italy’s Data Protection Authority, the Garante, has clarified some questions that have arisen. In this Global Privacy Dispatch for The Privacy Advisor, NCTM Studio Legale Associato Partner Rocco Panetta highlights the Garante’s “simplified arrangements to provide information and obtain consent regarding cookies." The clarifications include information on analytics cookies, technical cookies and ways to acquire users’ consent. “Although the Garante has followed a very prudent, transparent and open approach in adopting cookies rules, at the same time a number of issues are still a struggle as the consent mechanism is always functioning in theory but hard to be implemented in concrete,” Panetta writes.
