The U.S. Federal Trade Commission announced a settlement with Everalbum regarding alleged facial recognition misuse. The FTC claims the photo application developer, which shut down August 2020, used its facial recognition technology on photos without users' express consent and applied the technology to photos outside of the app feature that utilizes the scans. Additionally, Everalbum allegedly violated its own data retention policy in relation to deactivated accounts. Under the settlement, the company will obtain consent for future facial recognition deployment and delete prior models and algorithms the tech created.
