Freedom Mobile announced it had suffered a data breach; however, the number of victims affected by the incident was lower than initially estimated, the Financial Post reports. A pair of researchers from vpnMentor discovered the breach and later reported 1.5 million customers were impacted by the occurrence. The company said the 1.5 million figure was based on the assumption that hackers would access all the unencrypted data on Freedom’s customers. In response to the vpnMentor blog post, Freedom Mobile said only 15,000 customers had their information compromised. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada has been notified of the breach.
