France ratified the Council of Europe Convention 108+, modifying the original Convention 108 for the protection of individuals with regard to the automatic processing of personal data. "This is an important step in the process of bringing this new version of the only binding international treaty on the protection of personal data into force," France's data protection authority, the Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés, said, adding the modified Convention strengthens data subject rights and accounts for technological developments, like automated decision-making.
