A group of 850 football players are seeking compensation for their performance data being traded over the past six years and to receive an annual fee for any future use, BBC News reports. The players have sent “letters before action” to 17 data collection firms alleging the use of their data, including average goals-per-game statistics and player height, violates the EU General Data Protection Regulation. “It’s making football — and all sports — aware of the implications and what needs to change,” former Cardiff City, Leyton Orient and Yeovil Town manager Russell Slade said of the case.
