European lawmakers are proposing an international facial recognition system that would enable police forces to share individuals’ photos in law enforcement databases, Wired reports. Under the proposal, EU countries could compare images on their photo databases to locate a match. Lawmakers say the proposal will strengthen law enforcement coordination, while NGO European Digital Rights Policy Adviser Ella Jakubowska said it would create “the most extensive biometric surveillance infrastructure that I think we will ever have seen in the world.”
