While the European Union attempts to assert itself as a leading tech regulator, its status is in danger of being challenged, The New York Times reports. "Europe is naive about certain of the technologies coming from China and the United States, and just says that anyone doing business in Europe has to respect our rights and regulations," Cyber Policy Center International Policy Director Marietje Schaake said, noting that she is concerned that EU data protection law cannot keep pace with the rise of technology, such as artificial intelligence and facial recognition.
