The European Data Protection Board took up guidelines for calculating EU General Data Protection Regulation fines and the use of facial recognition technology by law enforcement. The guidance for fines aims to harmonize EU data protection authorities' methodologies under a five-step calculation scheme based on the factors of the nature of a violation, its seriousness and the size of the business. With law enforcement's use of facial recognition, the EDPB guidance states uses should be according to the EU Law Enforcement Directive while repeating its call for a ban on facial recognition tech.
