In a blog post, U.K. Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham discussed the ICO's current focuses and published a regulatory approach for its work during and after COVID-19. "My office’s role is to be both an enabler and a protector," Denham wrote. "We must reflect the requirements and reality of those we regulate, and engage on how data protection can enable innovation that can respond to the pandemic." Denham later explained six principles and actions the ICO will continue to emphasize during the coming months.
