The Digital Advertising Alliance announced a new initiative aimed at increasing transparency and accountability in digital political advertising. Under the DAA’s new guidance for political advertising, a "PoliticalAd" icon will appear on digital ads, linking the viewer to additional information pertaining to details of the political advertiser and other information required by state and federal law. The disclosure requirements will be independently enforced by the Advertising Self Regulatory Council and the Data & Marketing Association. Stu Ingis, chairman of Venable and counsel to the DAA, said, “As this effort moves forward, we will work closely with industry leaders and policymakers to ensure we are addressing the important issues that have been raised in recent cycles while increasing transparency and accountability in the electoral process.”
