An investigation by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, along with Alberta and British Columbia privacy commissioners, found commercial real estate company Cadillac Fairview collected 5 million shoppers’ images without their knowledge or consent. While the company asserted it notified shoppers and personal information was not collected, the commissioners determined the notice was insufficient and personal data was collected and analyzed, including sensitive biometric information. The company removed the facial recognition cameras and deleted associated data.
