France's data protection authority, the Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés, issued financial penalties against Google, Google Ireland and Amazon Europe Core for placing cookies on users' computers without their consent. The CNIL fined Google 60 million euros, Google Ireland 40 million euros and Amazon Europe Core 35 million euros for violating France's Data Protection Act. Google and Amazon each issued statements on the CNIL's decision.
