France's data protection authority, the Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés, fined Apple 8 million euros over alleged nonconsensual advertisement tracking. Investigations carried out in 2021 and 2022 found iPhone IOS 14.6 users had identifiers attached to their devices for the purpose of serving personalized ads without consent as they entered Apple's App Store. The regulator recently handed down a 60 million euro fine to Microsoft for similar ePrivacy Directive violations.
