France's data protection authority, the Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés, will now begin to conduct checks to ensure websites are in compliance with advertising tracker guidelines following the expiration of the deadline the agency granted, Euractiv reports. Under the guidelines, websites must obtain user consent via a "clear and positive" act, such as clicking a clearly labeled button. The CNIL also requires entities to be transparent about the purposes of the cookies they choose to use.
