CJEU: Consumer groups can sue over GDPR violations

Euractiv reports the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled EU consumer advocacy groups have a right to file lawsuits over alleged violations of the EU General Data Protection Regulation if national law permits it. The ruling allows consumer groups to file representative actions on behalf of consumers without it being raised by an individual or group of consumers. The decision stems from a case brought by the Federation of German Consumer Organisations against Facebook related to the company's data processing disclosures.
