Tech in Asia reports China's National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team has told app operators to reevaluate the types and amounts of personal data being collected from users. The regulator noted in its half-year report that apps were found to be over-collecting personal data, which is a problem that needs immediate attention. "A large number of apps exhibit abnormal behavior, such as detecting other apps or reading and writing user device files, posing a potential security threat to the user’s information security," the report stated. The call for rectification comes as China's digital services continues to grow and becomes more susceptible to data privacy issues.
