On the heels of National Security Advisor Susan Rice’s admonition to Chinese officials that cybersecurity mischief “needs to stop,” others caution that placing constant blame on China could cause future problems, The Wall Street Journal reports. “CIOs often hyper-focus on China and assume that every intrusion is China,” said Forrester Research’s Rick Holland. “This is dangerous because there are many other threat actors operating in cyberspace” that could use that focus to their advantage. Gartner’s Neil MacDonald emphasized the need to detect and prevent breaches. “Whether or not an attack or intrusion is state-sponsored … CIOs must do everything they can to detect cybercrimes as early as possible to contain a breach,” the report states.
