  • New rules finalized by the Cyberspace Administration of China governing generative artificial intelligence will take effect 15 Aug., CNBC reports. The regulation will apply to generative AI technology that is available to the general public and require providers to conduct security assessments to ensure security of user information.
  • The U.S. Federal Trade Commission is investigating whether ChatGPT's data security practices violate consumer protection laws, The Washington Post reports. The FTC demanded records about how parent company OpenAI addresses risks related to the platform and records related to a security incident that exposed payment-related information and chat history of some users.
