In an interview with Biometric Update, ImageWare Systems Chief Technology Officer David Harding said the California Consumer Privacy Act provides a golden opportunity for biometrics service providers. With compromised or weak credentials blamed for 80% of data breaches, Harding said biometric service providers can properly secure and segment data. He added the “biometric anonymity” of the proprietary database system can allow for the authentication necessary to prevent hacks, which are mostly password-based, while meeting CCPA requirements. “Being able to separate the biometrics away from any other personally identifiable information but still authenticate an identity on demand” is the key, Harding noted.
