Some New Zealand casinos are using facial-recognition technology to identify problem gamblers and criminal behavior, Casino Guardian reports. Cameras capture visitors’ faces as they enter the venue, and that image is compared to a database using a special algorithm. Casinos are also using the technology to block access for self-excluded and banned individuals. A system being tried at one casino tracks the amount of time an individual spends there. The use of facial recognition at casinos raises concerns for some who say it is an invasion of privacy.
