No singular law governing the development of artificial intelligence will account for potential negative outcomes created by the technology, IAPP AI Governance Center Director Ashley Casovan told members of the House of Commons Standing of Canada's Committee on Industry and Technology 7 Dec. Instead, Casovan said Canada's proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Act should serve as a framework for eventually creating sector-specific legislation addressing AI harms in a variety of contexts.
