Canada's Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions announced significant cybersecurity incidents reported by Canadian banks almost tripled in 2023, BNN Breaking News reports. To meet the challenge, the government's proposed C-26 legislation, introduced in 2022, includes a provision to require financial institutions to strengthen their cyber defenses, however, Privacy Commissioner of Canada Philippe Dufresne recently testified C-26 needs to contain stronger privacy protections for individuals.
