The implementation date of Brazil's General Data Protection Law may be pushed back from August due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ZDNet reports. IAPP Brazilian Country Leader Dirceu Santa Rosa said the country could move forward with the 2020 date; however, it may need to do so without some of the bill's key elements. "If the law is introduced without the (National Data Protection Authority), that role would be played by the prosecutor's office at a state and federal level, as well as consumer rights bodies, which would weaken the original function of the data protection authority," he said.
