The Federal Court of Australia ordered HealthEngine to pay AU$2.9 million in penalties for sharing patient data without consent and publishing misleading patient reviews, ZDNet reports. From April 2014 to June 2018, the company said it provided personal information — including names, birthdates, phone numbers and email addresses — of more than 135,000 patients to third-party insurance brokers without adequately notifying the individuals. The court also ordered the company to notify affected patients.
