The Australian Privacy Foundation has raised concern over the privacy safeguards currently in place for the country’s impending Consumer Data Right, ZDNet reports. In its submission, the APF wrote, “We consider the framework as it currently stands unnecessarily exposes people to harm because the fundamental privacy safeguards are not in place and risks have been severely underestimated by the government,” adding that an independent privacy impact assessment was needed. The CDR will enable individuals to “own” their data, as well as the right to control who can access and use it.
