The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation announced the appointment of the Infocomm Media Development Authority as Singapore’s accountability agent, making it the third economy to operationalize APEC's Cross-Border Privacy Rules system. As an independent third party, IMDA will ensure privacy policies and practices adhere to the APEC CBPR and Privacy Recognition for Processors before certifying them. “The appointment of the IMDA by Singapore as the new accountability agent of the CBPR system shows the deep commitment from members to pursue a better data protection mechanism that does not hinder innovation and development,” APEC Electronic Commerce Steering Group Chair Shannon Coe said.
