ZDNet reports Amazon has inquired the Australian government about clarifications on data retention provisions within the Telecommunications and Other Legislation (Assistance and Access) Act 2018. The tech giant is trying to better define who is required to retain data according to the law, noting that current verbiage does not explicitly state that only carriers or carriage providers are subject to such obligations. "This anomaly needs to be corrected," Amazon wrote in testimony for the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security's examination of the law. Amazon added that current legislation is hindering efforts to maintain users' faith in technology.
