Revised text of the EU's Artificial Intelligence Act indicates stricter proposed rules for "foundation model" systems, including generative AI systems like ChatGPT, Euractiv reports. Under the revised text, foundational models, those trained on broad data sets "designed for generality of output, and can be adapted to a wide range of distinctive tasks," would be differentiated from "general purpose AI," or those "that can be used in and adapted to a wide range of applications." Foundation model providers would have to comply with requirements, including data governance measures.
