Hughes_SandySandra R. Hughes, CIPP/US, was selected as the winner of the 2012 IAPP Privacy Vanguard Award for her effectiveness in developing a model to operationalize privacy and ethics across a multinational enterprise. She served as the global ethics, compliance and privacy executive during the last 11 years of her nearly 36?year career at Procter & Gamble, where her leadership enabled development of the company’s global information governance risk management program. The program elevated the role of ethics and compliance globally, using the global privacy program as a model.

“Sandy Hughes’ trailblazing career and ability to bring people together have helped advance the profession,” said IAPP Chairman Jeff Green, CIPP/C, vice president of global compliance and chief privacy officer at Royal Bank of Canada. “This well-deserved award reflects not only her pioneering work but also her tireless advocacy and mentorship.”

The winners of the 10th Annual HP-IAPP Privacy Innovation Awards were also announced during the event. The award recognizes unique privacy and data protection programs and services that build trust and add value to the private and public sectors.

“This year’s HP-IAPP Privacy Innovation Award winners represent the visionaries in our industry. The pioneering efforts of these organizations to develop original and comprehensive approaches to privacy and security not only benefit consumers and businesses, but elevate the profession as a whole,” said IAPP President and CEO Trevor Hughes, CIPP/US.

Vodafone, one of the world's largest mobile communications companies, won in the large organization category for its non-traditional approach to managing a wide range of potential privacy risks across diverse markets in the Vodafone Privacy Programme.

Alberta Pensions Services Corporation (APS) was selected as the winner in the small organization category for its comprehensive efforts to integrate privacy into operations across all levels of the organization.

CSR-Compliance Solutions and Resources and Oculis Labs both received honors in the technology category.

“HP is pleased to sponsor this award that recognizes advancements in privacy worldwide,” said Hewlett Packard Vice President and Chief Privacy Officer Scott Taylor, CIPP/US. “These organizations are true innovators when it comes to developing privacy initiatives that benefit their consumers.”
