According to a work order released by the U.S. Secret Service last week, the agency tasked with protecting current and former national leaders is asking developers to create an algorithm that can detect and delete online sarcasm, Ars Technica reports. Additionally, the work order calls for the development of software capable of targeting “influencer identification,” “access to historical Twitter data,” the “ability to search online content in multiple languages,” “audience segmentation” and “data visualization representations, (like) heat maps.” A Secret Service spokesman said the “objective is to automate our social media monitoring process. Twitter is what we analyze. This is real live stream analysis … We are looking for the ability to quantify our social media reach. We aren’t looking solely to detect sarcasm.”
