Stoddart went on to say that of the 3,134 government data breaches over the last 10 years, only 403 had been reported to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, suggesting that government departments are putting Canadians’ data in danger by not following reporting guidelines. “Our office feels federal organizations and Canadians would benefit from an instrument of greater weight to provide increased certainty such as enshrining such direction into law,” Stoddart told ITWorld Canada.
