The FTC has ended its inquiry into Google's Street View, citing the company's pledge not to gather personal information from unsecured WiFi networks, The Washington Post reports. Some privacy advocates have spoken out against the FTC's decision, which the report notes is quite different from actions being taken in the EU. "Part of it is cultural, and part of it is that the U.S. and Europe have radically different privacy regimes," said Chris Calabrese of the ACLU. "The European model is extensive data protection in private information, and the U.S. model is piecemeal."
