After announcing it had suffered a cyberattack in 2014 compromising 500 million user accounts, Yahoo has been hit with several class-action lawsuits, MediaPost reports. Four separate complaints have been filed in two federal courts in California and Illinois. The lawsuits allege Yahoo did not adequately safeguard user information, while some of the complaints include claims regarding the time between the attack and Yahoo’s announcement. The hack involved the possible theft of names, email addresses, telephone numbers, birth dates, security questions, and encrypted passwords. In related news, European Union privacy regulators, including U.K. Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham, say the Yahoo data breach is raising “serious questions” about Yahoo and other issues related to the attack. Editor’s Note: Denham will speak about her new role heading the ICO at the Data Protection Congress, 7-10 Nov., in Brussels.
