In a case before the U.S. Supreme Court, Yahoo has asked that an earlier decision by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court be thrown out, MediaPost reports. The previous ruling found that emails of a deceased customer are not protected by the federal Stored Communications Act, so long as the family provides permission for the release of email. In a petition to the court, Yahoo Attorney Marc Zwillinger wrote that the ruling “effectively eliminates personal privacy in email content after death by giving estate administrators complete control over those private communications.”
