Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg must be held liable for the company’s recent privacy situations, The Washington Post reports. In a letter to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, Wyden writes as the “public face” and majority shareholder of Facebook, Zuckerberg should be held accountable for any violations. “The FTC must also make clear the significant and material penalties that will apply to both Facebook the corporate and Mr. Zuckerberg the individual should any future violations occur,” Wyden writes. Meanwhile, New America Open Technology Institute Director Kevin Bankston lays out the future of the organization as he departs to become Facebook’s new director of privacy policy. (Registration may be required to access this story.)
