The U.S. Mission to the European Union has criticized Advocate General Yves Bot’s opinion to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) that calls Safe Harbor into question, Reuters reports, while the ECJ has announced it will deliver its ruling next Tuesday, October 6. In a statement entitled, "Safe Harbor Protects Privacy and Provides Trust in Data Flows that Underpin Transatlantic Trade," the mission said Bot’s opinion “rests on numerous inaccurate assertions about intelligence practices of the United States.” The mission is also “concerned about damage to trade and privacy in Europe and the United States,” the report states, and is asking the ECJ, “which usually follows its advocate general's advice, to reach different conclusions when it finally rules on the case,” the report states.
